With the amount of vehicles on the road in our state, it is crucial that Virginia implement and retain the Virginia Safety Inspection Program. Virginia's Vehicle Safety Inspection Program has been around since 1932, as a way to reduce highway deaths and improve motorist safety. It is the oldest continuous motor vehicle safety inspection program in the country.
Governor Kaine proposed a bill to change the requirement for Safety Inspections to every other year, a move that would marginalize the program; the first step in eliminating it entirely. Even though the bill was defeated in 2008 through extensive lobbying efforts, it was carried over to the 2009 session, and with the assumption that it will come up again for debate. A State Inspection Program is the best way to identify mechanically hazardous vehicles and ensure repairs are made before crashes occur. It simply saves lives!

Thank you for reading and please spread the information to other Virginia citizens. If the bill is passed, this will put everyone on our streets and highways at risk.
